The Ipswich Portal – built with carbon storing concrete

Utilization of eLM Zero in precast concrete

Created by: Portals Organization (portals.org)

Date: Fall 2025

Location: Ipswich, England

The Portals are technology-driven art sculptures designed to connect people from across the world in real time, people who might otherwise never meet in their lifetime. Lithuanian artist and entrepreneur, Benediktas Gylys, launched the initiative and has already linked five cities: Vilnius (Lithuania), Lublin (Poland), Dublin (Ireland), Philadelphia (United States), and now Ipswich in the United Kingdom.

The Ipswich portal is the first of its kind built with carbon-neutral concrete. By integrating our carbon-negative admix material, eLM Zero, into the precast elements, atmospheric carbon is permanently stored within the concrete. This sequestered carbon compensates for the embodied emissions of the concrete itself, resulting in a carbon-neutral structure that acts as long-term storage for the removed CO₂.

Portals not only connect people and serve as a bridge to a more united planet, from now on, they also remind us that caring for the Earth is part of what connects us all.
